First Official Day @ Our New Location

Our new store is located in The Renaissance Building at 411 N. Donnelly Street in Downtown Mount Dora.

WOW! We had a great opening day and now we get to rearrange the store because we sold a couple of big pieces of furniture. Yay!

I was able to meet a few of my blog followers in person, which is always fun.

And of course we played with the paint…

I can’t wait to see everyone that plans on coming tomorrow.

WooHOO!

New Loot and Adventures With Annie Sloan Paint

There is so much cool stuff in the works that I just can’t wait to tell…but I have to.

Here are some things I can share…

Isn’t the color fabulous? It’s Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue

I started working with Annie Sloan Chalk Paints a few weeks ago and I really love it.

This is what I started with and I have re-ordered twice since. The colors are great and the texture and finish is amazing. I am so happy that I tried this product because it really solved a lot of problems I had with standard latex paints.

I really have two main styles that I focus on and those are mid-century and french styles. I am not a purist or traditionalist in either style. I am constantly stepping out of the box with color choices and redesign techniques.

I wanted this piece to be kind of risque or sex in the city-ish. Traditional and avant garde colliding. I envision it in a dining room with heavy, silk damask drapes and sexy low lighting.

The next piece is a Heywood Wakefield ReDesign…

painted in Annie Sloan Graphite and finished with clear wax, I was able to buff the finish to a super smooth hard finish.

I doubt that I’m the only one that has used this paint for modern pieces, but I will say that it is well suited for it since the paint is fast drying and  you have the ability to buff the wax to a super hard finish.

I am working on a Bernhardt Sideboard, Gun Case, French Arm Chair and Dresser this week. Along with all the other new changes in the works…its going to be a busy week.

Inventory Ready To Be ReDesigned

The warehouse is filling up with pieces waiting to be ReDesigned. Here are a few of them…

New Loot at the Tavares Antique Mall

I have so much to share with y’all about the road trip, the new warehouse and the other new changes that are on the horizon, but for now I’m just going to give you a quick update and a preview of new loot. I have been crazy busy trying to get everything moved into the new warehouse and its starting to really take shape, but my booths at the Tavares Antique Mall were starting to look bare after selling some of my BIG furniture pieces. I finally found some time to refresh with some new stuff.

I will share more in the next few days…

My office/workroom is almost finished!

I live in a state of chaos and un-organization. I have been told that most creative people are this way and from time to time I actually get my Sh!t together and try to become organized in my own crazy way. My office had become a dumping ground for my junkin’ finds of the day, but once they were dumped they were infinitely lost. I was starting to believe that my boyfriend was correct…I was doomed to become a the next star of Hoarders. I had to do something about it, cause if the camera crews are on the way, then at least I can get my 15 min of fame in true High Falootin’ Junk(in) style.

It still isn’t complete, but its a good start. Keep in mind that my walls are freshly redone plaster, which in my opinion is a designers worst nightmare. The walls of my previous house looked like Swiss cheese when I moved, so having all white plaster walls is making me insane…but anyhoo…

The only thing that I had to purchase was the storage boxes and GORM Shelves from IKEA and I like these because you can add on to them as you need. Of course I had to put my signature turquoise wash on them.

The desk and memo board are my own High Falootin’ ReDesigns. As for the wall accents, if you look closely you will see all of the horseshoes…well I acquired an entire horseshoe bathroom collection and I didn’t need them in the bathroom, so I repurposed them as magazine and yarn holders. Also, you will see a cowboy hat and boot hook that my friend Ellen gave me and I use them to hang my paint swatches and scissors from. I also had a rusty horseshoe that holds my unopened mail (I’m hoping the lucky horseshoe notion will turn the bills into checks). Another cool flea market find is the wooden buggy leaf spring that I mounted on the wall and repurposed as at hat and jewelry rack.

On the opposite wall is my vintage sewing machine and custom {turquoise} painted table. There are more horseshoes holding more visual stimulation {yes…I’m a magazine hoarder}. The memo board is also from IKEA and it holds all of my fabric swatches and storyboards for future projects. The super funky floor lamp awaits just the right shade and holds all of my favorite pieces of jewelry.

I still have a lot to do in order to complete this room and my boyfriend is sick of turquoise, so therefore I must paint more {turquoise} in order to boyfriend proof it, lol.

MoRe SpAce for mORe SuPer Cool LooT!

I have expanded my booth at The Tavares Antique Mall to accommodate the ever expanding amount of loot that I score. I brought in more goodies today and did some rearranging,  which is a never ending process for me.

My style is so eclectic that my multiple {design} personalities start to fight with each other. Most of the time they work together but last week they were definitely at odds with each other and nothing turned out the way I wanted.

My junkin personality won out today when I was able to score all kinds of off beat, quirky and slightly unusual things. I typically don’t look for the precious antiques, as I prefer oddities and things that you have to ask what they are. I like mantiques and vintiques a little more than Fenton and Louis Comfort Tiffany. Anyhoo…here is the lowdown on today’s LOOT!

A Super Funky Vintage Box and you ask what for?!?

What else but your Wig…duh!!!!

I love this Vodka Decanter/ Dispenser. It would be fun in a Cowboy -Wild West theme bar.

and everyone needs a light like this one for their bar

and a lamp for their Jetsons House

Tom Torrens Lamp

Decanter with music box that play "How Dry Am I" and this one is pretty dry...

Vintage Sign for Mint Shnapps

Cig. Roller

Good ol' junk Cabinet

full of…well what else…good junk, including these Destash Jars

Green & Yellow Destash Jars

okay… some of you might not get the destash jars, so let me try to explain…to destash is to get rid of all that stuff in your junk drawers. So a destash jar is…you guessed it… junk in a jar, lol. More specifically… color coordinated, silly junk in a jar. It makes a really cool and visually stimulating conversation piece. I used to make them all the time with buttons and jewelry findings, but I love the quirky junk that you find in these.

Anyhoo…gotta run…Have a great week!

Mine is off to a good start, yay!

Find Of The Week & Progress Updates

I found this really great distressed church pew and I knew exactly where I wanted to put it. I didn’t measure it, but somehow I knew that it would fit and it just barely did.  It was meant to be mine. Thank goodness, because I didn’t have anywhere else to put it. Now I have to relocate the prints that are above it. The one thing about being an antiques dealer is that your house decor is constantly rotating to different places every time you bring something else home, lol. I think I am going to do some very un-churchy  wall decor above it. Maybe an old honky-tonk concert poster or a saloon sign to show some contrast.

Look how perfectly distressed it is! I like having odd conversation pieces in my house and when my 18 year old son asked “is that a church pew”? I knew that I had hit the nail on the head with this one.

Updates…

as for the progress on this weeks to do list…

well I got everything sanded, but no painting occurred thanks to the rainy weather. Maybe the weekend will be a productive one.

Y’all have a good one.

This Weeks To-Do List

So it might seem strange to post your “to-do” list up on a blog, but I seem to have issues with completing these lists and need to have a sense of accountability toward completing them. Maybe if I post them for the world to see, I will feel more obligated to try harder and y’all will get a glimpse of my projects that are in the works…

  • Finish painting this China Cabinet

  • Start sanding and painting this dresser set.

  • start sanding and painting this 3 corner cabinet

  • finish these chairs

  • Prepare for this weeks booth install

These are the main items for this week along with 100 other minor things that need to happen.

Wish me luck…
