I’m On Fire This Week…

And I don’t just mean the temperature (although it is 96 degrees) I’m cranking out projects like someone lit a fire under my tail…

I finished up the custom order for Michelle’s daughter…

The client had chosen a chest that was in my “to be redesigned” album on facebook and she wanted the turquoise color that I had used on some other pieces. She also wanted me to paint a sleigh bed that she already owned. It was a very nice piece of furniture but her daughter was bored with the traditional look of it, so we decided to update it with a black paint job. (I got so excited to start working on it that I forgot to take the before picture before sanding)

When they came to drop of the bed her daughter noticed this cute vanity and decided that she wanted it in black also…

knowing the pre-teens style, I decided to surprise her with a little more turquoise… which gave this little vanity a funky personality…just like hers.

I really like the way it turned out… It’s really fun to work with kids that have good style…

I also have this project in the works…

I fell in love with the Heidi Grace Birdcage Fabric

and I just had to use it on something…

so this little mid century chest will be getting a makeover…just a teaser…check back to see the progress.

Have a productive week…

New Furniture- Mid Century Modern Bedroom

Just in…

For all of you mid- century modern lovers. This is a great set but will gladly sell separately.

Inventory Ready To Be ReDesigned

The warehouse is filling up with pieces waiting to be ReDesigned. Here are a few of them…

My office/workroom is almost finished!

I live in a state of chaos and un-organization. I have been told that most creative people are this way and from time to time I actually get my Sh!t together and try to become organized in my own crazy way. My office had become a dumping ground for my junkin’ finds of the day, but once they were dumped they were infinitely lost. I was starting to believe that my boyfriend was correct…I was doomed to become a the next star of Hoarders. I had to do something about it, cause if the camera crews are on the way, then at least I can get my 15 min of fame in true High Falootin’ Junk(in) style.

It still isn’t complete, but its a good start. Keep in mind that my walls are freshly redone plaster, which in my opinion is a designers worst nightmare. The walls of my previous house looked like Swiss cheese when I moved, so having all white plaster walls is making me insane…but anyhoo…

The only thing that I had to purchase was the storage boxes and GORM Shelves from IKEA and I like these because you can add on to them as you need. Of course I had to put my signature turquoise wash on them.

The desk and memo board are my own High Falootin’ ReDesigns. As for the wall accents, if you look closely you will see all of the horseshoes…well I acquired an entire horseshoe bathroom collection and I didn’t need them in the bathroom, so I repurposed them as magazine and yarn holders. Also, you will see a cowboy hat and boot hook that my friend Ellen gave me and I use them to hang my paint swatches and scissors from. I also had a rusty horseshoe that holds my unopened mail (I’m hoping the lucky horseshoe notion will turn the bills into checks). Another cool flea market find is the wooden buggy leaf spring that I mounted on the wall and repurposed as at hat and jewelry rack.

On the opposite wall is my vintage sewing machine and custom {turquoise} painted table. There are more horseshoes holding more visual stimulation {yes…I’m a magazine hoarder}. The memo board is also from IKEA and it holds all of my fabric swatches and storyboards for future projects. The super funky floor lamp awaits just the right shade and holds all of my favorite pieces of jewelry.

I still have a lot to do in order to complete this room and my boyfriend is sick of turquoise, so therefore I must paint more {turquoise} in order to boyfriend proof it, lol.

Find Of The Week & Progress Updates

I found this really great distressed church pew and I knew exactly where I wanted to put it. I didn’t measure it, but somehow I knew that it would fit and it just barely did.  It was meant to be mine. Thank goodness, because I didn’t have anywhere else to put it. Now I have to relocate the prints that are above it. The one thing about being an antiques dealer is that your house decor is constantly rotating to different places every time you bring something else home, lol. I think I am going to do some very un-churchy  wall decor above it. Maybe an old honky-tonk concert poster or a saloon sign to show some contrast.

Look how perfectly distressed it is! I like having odd conversation pieces in my house and when my 18 year old son asked “is that a church pew”? I knew that I had hit the nail on the head with this one.

Updates…

as for the progress on this weeks to do list…

well I got everything sanded, but no painting occurred thanks to the rainy weather. Maybe the weekend will be a productive one.

Y’all have a good one.

Thursday’s Trippin’ For Treasures {Lou’s Treasure Hunt in DFW}

I have a friend that is heading to the Dallas-Fort Worth area this weekend and I am green with envy. I wanted to pack myself in her suitcase, but she informed me yesterday that she had already packed and therefore I would have to remove all of her boots in order to fit myself in there and that just wouldn’t be right…leaving her without any boots to wear while in DFW.

Anyhoo…When I hear that someone I know is going to any of my favorite places they inevitably end up with a list of things I need from those places. So…I have constructed a scavenger/treasure hunt for Lou.

Dallas

  • Curiosities- find some cool funky junk- you know my style
  • Uncommon Market- take pics… if they let you
  • Neiman Marcus Flagship Store- Take a pic of the outside. I’m too broke to ask for anything from inside, lol.
  • The Gypsy Wagon- Texas Necklace or anything else TX under $20
  • University Co-op – cowboy boot scarf

    Pic Courtesy of University Co-Op

Fort Worth

  • You gotta stop by Billy Bobs and see Robert Earl Keen on the 12th and pick up a Texas Flag for me.
  • Stop by Mavericks Western Wear and say hi to Kyle. He’s a cutie!
  • Go by 95.9 The Ranch – Say hey to Justin and see if you can win this t-shirt for me.

  • The White Elephant – Get a shot and get a shot glass.
  • The Cadillac – take a pic of all the cowboy hats {and whats under them} – Yummy!
  • Cowboy Church in the Stockyards- You don’t have to actually go to church, but get a pic of all the cowboys dressed up in their Sunday “goin’ to church” boots.
  • DHW – Architectural Salvage- take a pic of the coolest thing you find
  • The Old Home Supply House- this is a really cool place- enjoy!
  • Stop by Bess & Evie’s Vintage and score some amazing perfectly beat up cowboy boots {for yourself… cause I’m broke now and your exhausted from running around for me, so you deserve them, lol}.

I hope you didn’t have anything that you wanted to accomplish while in DFW…if so…next time let me hide in your suitcase, lol.

Road Trippin’ For Treasures

I have been looking all over for a vintage travel trailer. I’m sure some of you dream of a Prevost with granite counter tops and a king size bed, but not me…I’m looking for sometime a little more hip and funky than that. Something that I can make my own little travelin’ gypsy wagon. I can just picture myself settin’ off for parts unknown in search of good ol’ junk, with my happy little home away from home in tow. Here is what I’m talkin’ about…

They call her Buttercup. How cute is that? Pretty darn cute in my opinion!

But this one has a really cool matching truck….

and the Cowgirl Caravan…oh how I aspire to own one just like this…

The log cabin on wheels is truly retrofabulicious (yes, I just made that up)

and then…there is the SPARTAN in all of its shiny glory. It has the coolest curved windows in the front.

and the GLIDER…OMG!!!

Anyway…I’m on a mission. I want to travel to antique shows with all my High Falootin’ Junk and I will need a place to hang my hat and kick off my boots while road trippin’.

Wish me luck on my hunt.
